Kent Police have charged a 26-year-old with murder after a man in his 40s died of stab wounds at a property in Knightrider Street, Maidstone, on 7 September.
A man has been charged with murder after a fatal stabbing in Maidstone.
Kent Police were called to a property in Knightrider Street at 10.21pm on Monday 7 September. A man in his 40s was found inside with injuries consistent with stab wounds. He died at the scene while paramedics were treating him. The force says his next of kin have been informed (Kent Police).
Investigators from the force’s Major Crime Unit have since charged a man. A woman who was arrested in the days after the death has been released and will not face any further investigation.
What Kent Police said
The force set out the following account in its own statement (Kent Police):
- Officers were called at 10.21pm on Monday 7 September 2026, following reports of an assault at a property in Knightrider Street.
- They attended alongside other emergency services. A man in his 40s was found inside the property with injuries consistent with stab wounds.
- He died while being treated by paramedics at the scene.
- On Thursday 10 September, Bradley Patton, 26, of Gordon Road, Greater London, was charged with murder.
- He was due to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Friday 11 September.
- A 22 year old woman who was also arrested in connection with the incident was released from custody on 8 September and will not face any further investigation.
The force has not named the man who died, and Maidstone Live does not name people the police have not named.
The woman arrested is no longer under investigation
Two people were arrested in the first days of the investigation. Kent Police’s statement confirms that the second arrest went no further.
The 22 year old woman was released from custody on 8 September, two days before the charge. The force says she will not face any further investigation. She has not been named.
The case is now active in the courts
A person has been charged, so the case is active under the Contempt of Court Act 1981. That sets a limit on what any publication can responsibly say.
Maidstone Live does not report court proceedings, and we will not publish speculation about what happened in the property or why. Everything above comes from the force’s own published statement. Nothing else should be treated as fact about this case. A charge is an allegation, not a finding of guilt.
What the public record shows about the area
Knightrider Street sits inside the police neighbourhood Kent Police calls High Street, which covers Maidstone town centre (police.uk). Home Office street-level open data lets us show what has actually been recorded there, which is the kind of local detail a national report leaves out.
In the 12 months to July 2026, the most recent month published, police recorded:
- 3,347 crimes of all types inside the High Street neighbourhood boundary
- 1,089 of those under violence and sexual offences
- 27 under possession of weapons
- 80 crimes mapped to Knightrider Street itself, including 26 violence and sexual offences and 23 reports of anti-social behaviour
Three things matter when reading those numbers:
- The data runs only to July 2026, so it does not include September and has nothing to do with this incident.
- Street-level data has no separate category for homicide. A killing is counted within violence and sexual offences.
- Each report is placed at an anonymised map point near the scene, not at an address. A Knightrider Street count therefore takes in reports from the surrounding streets as well.
None of these figures relate to the case now before the courts.
